The smaller brother of the great grande Lakers, the underdog for nearly two decades that they have been around. The team in red blue, and of course, white. The team many hope to see competing for the higher prize, challenging the champions. The team that has been named as a sure victory in nearly every teams schedule. But all that aside, during these decades, this is a dynasty that has claimed more than five hundred victories.
Ever since I started following the league, collecting cards, playing the ball in the backyard with my buddies those Jordan-Malone battles, Clippers was not a favored team. It never has been. It must be one of the main reasons why I love them so now, after ten years of following the league. Such a status, an underdog, can be a major motivation boost and should be taken advantage of. Not the most original ideas, and the Clippers went out and tried that strong after two seasons being below 20% in their victories. Talent, yes Clippers has always had alot talent in the team thanks to draft picks. In their low season 99-00, they had Derek Anderson, Mo Taylor, Odom, and two today-underrated Olowakandi and Tyrone Nesby. And bang, boost that team two years later they reach near 50% winning average with Odom, Elton Brand, McInnis and Q-Rich. It was fun following the NBA media that talked of a bright future for the team. It always brought a smile on my face even if they managed to claim a win over my personal favorite at the time.
Imagine my frustration when now, today, the team has not a single player left from that lineup, besides Brand and Maggette. Losing great players like Boykins and one of my favorite hilight dunkers of the time Darius Miles. 44% they are posting up with wins this season is a good perfomance, but I cant take my mind off the dream that could have happened by now if the cards would have been played better, or differently. Clippers is and has always been a team that perhaps misses only one major factor, a superstar. Having talent and potential stars is not good enough since its hard to keep them tied with the team for long enough time for good deeds to happen.
So Ill continue following the news headlines, hoping for the victories over the champions. This day will definetly happen, as long as the supporters, and fans, even if in a small amount, still continue believing in the team and cheering when Maggette manages another great play or when Brand dominates. These players look for our support, and one day the underdog will become a master.
