The Los Angeles Clippers opened the 2005-2006 NBA season in very promising fashion with a fourth quarter 37-18 trouncing en route to 101-93 comeback road victory over the Seattle Supersonics.

The Clippers were led by newly acquired Sam Cassell’s 35 points on a solid 14-26 shooting performance. Elton Brand had 15 points and 8 boards respectively and James Singleton had a great first NBA game with 14 points on 7-8 shooting in 25 minutes of game time. The Clippers as a team shot an impressive 39-78 (50%) for the game. Last night’s comeback victory was made more intriguing by the possibilities of what the Clippers could be able to do when at full strength.

The return of Corey Maggette and Shaun Livingston will provide the Clippers with even more of an offensive punch. The Clippers can’t expect Cassell to beaster on defenses like he did on the Sonics every game this season. He will level out at around 16 and 8 assists , which is very good considering that the Clippers have Mobley and Magette.

Head Coach Mike Dunleavy will implement a team work ethic knowing that this season he will possibly see 6 Clippers regularly scoring in double figures. Cassell and Livingston will are both good passers who will make sure the ball gets around. The season has just been born but look for improvement in this year’s Clippers team due to the play of their front court, which will allow Corey Maggette to move back into the 3 slot. It will also be interesting to see how Dunleavy will put Yaroslav Korolev into the mix of things. Look for the Clippers to come out shooting against the Hawks in their home opener this Friday. The Clippers will go to work inside on the Hawks, as it will be difficult for Atlanta to match up defensively against both Elton Brand and Chris Kaman. Look for Cuttino Mobley to find his stroke as well.
